ADOPTION POLICY
Dogs Trust believes that each animal deserves a loving, stable "forever home"; for this reason, the re-homing process is extensive. All animals in our care are treated as our own animals and so the adoption process is strict to ensure that only the best possible home is found for our furry friends.
All animals will be sterilized, innoculated, rabies vaccinated and dewormed prior to adoption, and a vaccination health record reflecting all relative historical information is handed over, upon delivery of our furry friend to its new owner.
CONDITION PRECEDENT
If at any time, throughout the future life of the adopted animal, Dogs Trust at its sole discretion, determines that the welfare of the adopted animal is compromised, then Dogs Trust retains the RIGHT to re-take possession of the adopted animal from its guardian (person adopting the animal) and to refund all adoption monies paid. The guardian accordingly agrees to this and further agrees to Dogs Trust entering the premises where the animal is being held. The guardian further agrees that no change in guardianship of the adopted animal shall take place without the prior approval of Dogs Trust.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE
A telephonic interview is conducted between the adoptee and a Dogs Trust representative. This interview will best be able to establish if a particular dog will be appropriate for a home and that the home is suitable for a dog in our rescue.
If all criteria are met during the telephonic interview, the potential adoptee will be invited to view the animal or animals in question as well and others available for adoption.
If both the adoptee and Dogs Trust are happy and comfortable with the initial meeting, a home check date is arranged, and the furry friend’s adoption papers are put in order. If the house check is up to standard, the furry friend will then be handed over.
The financial amount is then processed for the adoption. This amount covers a non-negotiable sterilization, inoculations, deworming and de-flea procedures. Note that payment is due before the pup is handed over.
Puppies that are adopted are only taken if assurances and follow-ups are made regarding sterilization once the puppy comes of age. This is strictly monitored as Dogs Trust aims at all costs to eliminate the increase in animal breeding when there are so many unwanted animals out there looking for a home.
Due to the nature of rescue, many times we are unable to ascertain the “house-trained” ability of the animals and so we stress that patience is emphasized over the transition phase. Dogs Trust also has some great tips and tricks regarding potty training.
We are always available for advice, a chat or reassurance! By adopting an animal with us you are embarking on an ongoing relationship, we are always there for you as you are to the animal.
